I've always been intriuged by the legend of the mermaid. An aquatic creature with the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a fish, the mermaid has appeared in folklore throughout the world. It is believed that the mermaid would take humans to her underground kingdom as prisoners. Other stories depict the mermaid as a siren who sings songs of enchantment, luring men into the sea where they meet their deaths. Images of the mermaid picture the fishy maiden lounging on rocks by the sea, combing her long hair and gazing in a mirror.
